Rob Moir

about rob moir.

Toronto’s Rob Moir looks back on five consecutive years of street life with the release of his third album, Solo Record. Written in Melbourne, Australia, during a rare break from the road, the new material stays true to Moir’s brand of honest songwriting and clever turns of phrase in his lyrics.

Solo Record is a stripped-down, no-nonsense work that would fit nicely in a record collection alongside Bruce Springsteen, The Replacements and Wilco. It includes songs like Sometimes You Gotta Go, in which Moir reassures a younger version of himself that it’s okay to follow his passion and that, against all odds, some version of his dreams can come true. In Love Is A House On Fire, Moir sings about what it’s like to wait too long to show your feelings to a loved one.

In 2013, Moir released the critically acclaimed LP Places To Die, about which Rolling Stone wrote in its 4-star album review: “Moir isn’t conservative; there’s something urgent in his songs, which are never too sure of themselves and whose longing has yet to find a home. Moir sings his romantically sighing songs with punk rock folk in his heart and also demonstrates a great flair for quiet singer/songwriter moments”.

2015 saw the release of his second album Adventure Handbook, a burst of life and energy backed by his Toronto band The Great Lates. Once again, Rolling Stone commented on the full-length release, saying, “Moir’s compositions are now so assured, they go straight to the heart.”

Moir has already toured Europe with Grammy-nominated Neko Case and shared the stage with other alt-folk artists such as Frightened Rabbit, Frank Turner and The White Buffalo. With solo appearances at the international festivals BIGSOUND, Music Matters and Live at Heart, as well as several successful tours in Australia, Canada, Europe, the UK and Japan, Moir has proven that he can silence a fractious audience with his intimate performances, snappy humour and captivating stage presence.

Constantly travelling the lonely road, Rob Moir is expanding his audience by performing his songs around the world and winning fans the old-fashioned way – one loyal supporter at a time.
